Mission Secretary
The duty of the Office of Mission Secretary is essentially the “animation of the mission work showing the universality of the Church.” It is carried out in different activities organised throughout the year:
Sponsorship of a Missionary: this is a spiritual and financial support program for the Chilean Missionaries working in a foreign country. The idea is twofold: to pray for missionaries working in another country and to offer financial support by sponsoring small projects. Every little helps, so there are no financial expectations or fixed contributions, rather the sponsorship value is left to individual’s affordability. This activity offers each contributor an opportunity to become a missionary from their own home, and promotes a deeper awareness of the missionary dimension of the Church. The sponsor also receives, bimonthly, some news on the Divine Word Missionaries.
Mission Centre: The Mission Centre is a service available to schools, or any group within the wider community who wish to participate in daily workshops, events and retreats. The facilities include a chapel, sitting room, kitchen, classrooms and a large outdoor area especially designed for personal and communal reflections. The capital raised from this centre supports the Chilean missionaries working abroad.
Missionary Calendar: The Mission Secretary edits the annual calendar, keeping the universality of the Church foremost in mind. It presents in a creative way the evangelisation of all nations, especially places where the gospel has not been preached or sufficiently rooted. This calendar is available in Spanish from the Mission Office.
The Week of St. Arnold Janssen Family: This is a week of mission awareness promoted by the Divine Word Missionaries throughout the schools and parishes in Chile. This period of mission facilitation provides us with the opportunity to express the salient aspects of our mission work:
Communication, Vocations, Bible, Justice and Peace, Mission and Mission Awareness.
Mission Exposition Light for the World: This ministry endeavours to expose a worldwide awareness of mission at the request of the diocesan clergy. It is supported by lively forums and seminars and is held at least once a year in one of the dioceses in Chile.
